Many people have resigned themselves to the fate of having bad genes when thinking about the risk of heart disease. They assume that since heart disease runs in their family they are automatically at a higher risk for the disease.

Recently a study was done on the gene 9p21. People with an altered gene 9p21 have a higher risk of having a heart attack. However, the risk factor for those who ate a diet high in raw fruits and vegetables was nearly eliminated.

This article is not only applicable for those who are at high risk, but for everyone. As we know, having a healthy diet is beneficial to a person’s overall well being. Eating a diet high in fruits and vegetables has already been proven to have a long-term benefit on the energy of those maintaining the diet. With the added health benefits it is hard not to have a change of heart.
