There has been a lot of research done on the brain and more specifically on the ability for the brain to remember ideas, places, things, etc… Recently, the folks over at UT Southwestern Medical Center, came out with the study that memories might be able to be altered. 

In studies with mice (not yet humans), the chemical P7C3 was able to prevent apoptosis (the dying off of cells) for the neurons in their brain. The chemical was able to stop neuron death, preserve cognitive ability, and stop cognitive decline in aging specimens.
