A New Approach to Medical Alarms

Since the launch of the 2 way voice Personal Emergency Reporting System (PERS), there have been many innovations. From the size of the necklaces and bracelets to the actual range of the devices, the medical alarm field has progressed over the years. Instead of the standard medical alert, we are able to offer you much more. We do still offer the standard medical alert at a very low price, but if you are interested in a device you can speak into, the Medipendant is your choice. If you want a GPS medical alert, the SurePod GPS is your choice. With all of these choices, you can't go wrong. We even offer a 30 day trial so you can determine if the device you chose is actually the device you want to keep.

A Copying Mistake Responsible for Human Brains

A new study suggests that a copying error may be responsible for how human brains have developed over the past 3.5 million years and why we are so different from our closest relatives, the primates. When scientists duplicated this error in mice, the mice's brain cells were able to move into place faster and establish many more connections (similar to humans). Apparently the specific copy error was a duplication and several of these duplications led the development of the tightly woven, highly connected human brain.

"We may have been looking at the wrong types of mutations to explain human and great ape differences, and these episodic and large duplication events could have allowed for radical — potentially Earth-shattering — changes in brain development and brain function"

Exercise and Computer Use Mitigate Mild Cognitive Impairment

A novel study looked at both exercise and computer use. It has been known for quite some time that exercise decreases MCI (mild cognitive impairement). This study then factored in exercise. Exercise can be as simple as walking a mile or two a day or running 5-10. Amazingly, computer use and exercise combined was a clear winner. Instead of a 35% cognitive decline in elderly adults, they saw a 5% decline. This may be from simply keeping the mind active and enhancing connections in the brain, or it could be just that the users of computers who exercise have a healthier and more regimented lifestyle.

Evolution Still Occurring in Humans

Even though it was widely believe that humans were not evolving, a new study shows that this may be false. According to the study, which examined an extremely large sample size, humans beings are continuously evolving. According to the study, within the last 5,000 years, our brain size has continued to shrink. This is not to say that we are becoming dumber as a race, but more likely that some of the brain function that our distant relatives used to use are no longer necessary.

A Cure For Baldness? Stem Cells…

If you thought you knew about all the miracles of stem cells, did you know Japanese researchers were able to stimulate hair growth. They took a bald mouse and were able to grow a mohawk.

"Using stem cell therapy, scientists at the Tokyo University of Science in Japan led by Takashi Tsuki gave a hairless mouse a Mohawk by regenerating hair follicles.

Researchers used follicles from a normal mouse, namely adult epithelial stem cells and dermal papilla cell found in the skin, to create a "seed" of a hair follicle. Then, they implanted the newly-created "seed" using intracutaneous transplantation into the hairless mouse and -- Voila! -- hair."

Why Did Kobe Go to Germany?

This experimental surgery that has many basketball players traveling out of the United States. According to the results, artritis, inflammation and many other ailments were mitigated and in some cases cured with the revolutionary treatments. The treatments involve take out approximately a cup of blood from the patient, warming up the blood to induce a "fever", removing part of the blood with a centrifuge, and then reinjecting the blood back into the patient.

These treatments must be approved by the FDA and therefore extensive researching and testing must be done in order for them to be introduced into the US market. Germany allows practice of these experimental medical procedures. This is why many athletes, wealthy individuals and people that have tried everything else, are going to Germany in desparation. According the the doctors performing the procedures, ther is an extremely high success rate somewhere along the range of 65%. This is amazing but critics would like to attribute this success rate to physical therapy. The problem is that these patients have tried nearly everything without any relief of pain and/or symptoms.

Life On Mars Found in 1976?

In 1976, the Viking robot launched to Mars and did a series of experiments. During the experiments, they deemed the data pointed to geological activity. After recently reviewing the documents, the degree of order was mathematically unprecedented when compared to non-geological activity: "They found close correlations between the Viking experiment results' complexity and those of terrestrial biological data sets. They say the high degree of order is more characteristic of biological, rather than purely physical, processes."

Obesity in Mothers Lead to Autism

A new study came out showing the link between obese mothers and autism. There is a 67% increase in autism if the mother has a BMI of 30 or more. If the BMI of the mother is between 28-29, the chances of autism are increased nearly the same amount. There are additional risks for development disorders also linked to overweight and obese mothers. They said that although there was a link to development disorders in mothers with high blood sugar and diabetes, there was no additional risk of autism in a mother with high blood sugar or diabetes.

Rising Levels of CO2 in the Air May Make You Fat

According to a recent study, rising levels of CO2 may make you fat.

"Increased carbon dioxide, or CO2, levels in the air make our blood more acidic (reducing pH levels). When this happens, brain cells called orexin neurons, which regulate appetite and are sensitive to blood acidity, increase their activity and cause us to eat more."

Many animals and not just humans have seen an increase in obesity. Check this article out below:
